W37 reveals a market that remains resilient on the surface but increasingly fragile beneath it: commodities are leading, bonds are under pressure, and equity market breadth is deteriorating, while credit and volatility have yet to confirm a full risk-off shift…
WEEKLY INTERMARKET REPORT W37 · 7–11 SEPTEMBER 2026 · DATA CUT 11/09/2026
DOMINA MARKET INTELLIGENCE · CROSS-ASSET
Commodities in the lead, bonds under pressure and short-term equity participation deteriorating. Credit and volatility, however, have yet to confirm a shift to systemic risk-off.
Author · Fabrizio Ravetto | Data cut 11 September 2026 | Week 37
Executive Summary
Intermarket thesis. W37 displays a regime that remains resilient yet more fragile beneath the surface. The Risk Appetite Index holds at 70 — Greed, credit retains risk-on signals and the VIX stands at 15,8; concurrently the Canary System shifts to CAUTION, Treasuries remain under pressure, commodities are leading the rotation and short-term breadth is losing participation. The most coherent reading is therefore inflation/rates shock with tactical deterioration, not yet a structural regime change.
1. Macro Asset Snapshot
EquityResilient, but narrowing
Equities, fixed income and commodities: the weekly snapshot
SPY remains above the 50DMA and 200DMA, but closes the week at −1.15%. Weakness is more evident in participation than in the index itself.
BondUnder pressure
TLT is below its moving averages, losing −1.46% over 1W and −4.93% over 3M. The Treasury futures monitor remains entirely in the weak quadrant.
CommoditiesLeadership
DBC +3.75% over 1W, +10.13% over 1M and +13.45% over 3M. Energy and several agricultural segments remain dominant.
USD / FXSideways / relative weakness
UUP is essentially flat; the FX GRID shows a weak DXY and the yen in relative leadership.
Macro assets — Stocks, Bonds, Commodities, US Dollar · DOMINA Trading Suite · 60-day rolling
The Stocks/Bonds ratio rises primarily because bonds are weaker than equities: this is relative outperformance, not independent evidence of an increase in absolute risk appetite. The cleanest signal remains commodity leadership against a persistently weak fixed-income duration.
2. Market Regime
Risk Appetite70 — GREED
Sentiment remains elevated, inconsistent with a reading of systemic stress.
Business Cycle ClockExpansion
The macro clock remains in expansion mode, keeping equities and commodities as the asset classes consistent with the regime.
CanaryCAUTION
Credit still OK, but TIPS negative: the system signals friction on the inflation/rates front.

Observed data: VIX 15.8; HYG/LQD 0.7535 risk-on; Put/Call 0.78 risk-on; HYG/TLT 0.9719 risk-on; breadth >200DMA 54.1% neutral. Inference: the market is absorbing a rates shock, but credit has yet to validate a transition to risk-off.

The week was not a synchronised global liquidation. Dispersion is elevated: Korea and Japan are holding or accelerating, EM are positive, while China, Germany and US small caps are weak. This profile is more consistent with geographical and factor rotation than with broad-based risk-off.

Global leadership is concentrated in Korea, Taiwan, Brazil and a cluster of peripheral/Nordic European markets. In Asia, the contrast is sharp between Korea–Taiwan–Japan and the China/Hong Kong–India bloc. In the Americas, Brazil and Peru are strong, while Mexico and Colombia are weak. The key takeaway is the extreme dispersion in relative strength, not uniform global beta.
5. USA Sector Rotation
USA Sector Rotation — Sector ETFs + SPY · DOMINA Trading Suite
Leadership: Energy is firmly in the strong quadrant; Technology, Communication Services and Financials remain constructive. Deterioration: Consumer Discretionary, Industrials, Real Estate, Utilities and Staples occupy the weak area; Healthcare and Materials are showing a loss of relative momentum. The rotation does not resemble a classic linear flight to defensives: Utilities and Real Estate are among the most penalised segments, consistent with elevated yields.

Bond Rotation — Treasury futures · DOMINA Trading Suite
The curve is not signalling inversion, but the absolute level of yields remains the dominant constraint. Simultaneous weakness along the curve and the 10Y approaching 5% compress equity duration and bond-proxy sectors. This is the primary channel through which the energy shock is transmitted to equities.

WPI — Wyckoff Position Index · LT 67% / ST 57% + WPI/SPY history
WPI Long Term — quadrants by sector, commodities and bonds
WPI Short Term — quadrants by sector, commodities and bonds
Key data point: 54.1% of S&P 500 constituents are above the 200DMA, but only 38.4% are above the 50DMA. WPI LT stands at 67% versus ST at 57%. A/D of 1.99 is positive on the individual session, while the new highs/lows balance is −2. The long-term structure is not broken, but near-term participation is clearly more fragile. Energy (82%/73%) and Healthcare (73%/57%) remain relatively robust; Real Estate (29%/13%), Utilities (13%/13%), Consumer Cyclical (35%/20%) and Industrials (50%/18%) show the greatest deterioration.
8. FX
FX Rotation — currency futures and DXY · DOMINA Trading Suite
The dollar is not confirming a classic risk-off move: DXY is in the weak quadrant, while the yen is the most evident relative leader and AUD/EUR/GBP/CAD remain in constructive territory. This tempers the global stress reading and supports the geographic dispersion observed in equities. The BoJ meeting on 17–18 September therefore becomes a significant catalyst for the yen and carry trades.
9. Commodities

Precious Metals · DOMINA Trading Suite
Industrial Metals · DOMINA Trading Suite

Soft Commodities · DOMINA Trading Suite
Aggregate: DBC is leading the cross-asset complex and breadth is wide, though not uniform. Energy: crude and refined products remain strong, while Natural Gas is weak. Precious Metals: Platinum is the leader; Gold and Silver do not exhibit the same relative strength. Industrial Metals: HRC is strong, while Copper/Aluminum are more uncertain and Nickel remains weak. Grains: a broadly strong positioning prevails, with Soybean Oil the softer outlier. Softs: Sugar, Cotton and Cocoa are strong but with trajectories that are not always accelerating; Coffee, Orange Juice and Lumber remain weak. The overall message is therefore one of inflation-sensitive leadership with internal dispersion, not a uniform rally across the entire complex.
HYG/LQD and HYG/TLT remain risk-on. Credit is not corroborating systemic stress.
ECB+25 bp
On 10 September the ECB raised rates: the deposit facility rate moves to 2.50% from 16 September, citing inflationary pressures linked to the Middle East.
Next TestFed + BOJ
FOMC 15–16 September; BOJ 17–18 September. Two decisive junctures for yields, USD/JPY and global financial conditions.
The absence of credit deterioration is the primary reason why the bond sell-off is not yet classified as systemic stress. A negative validation would come from a convergence of elevated yields + deteriorating credit + declining LT breadth + accelerating volatility.
11. Transmission Channels
DriverOil above $100 and strong commodities; August CPI +0.4% m/m and +3.4% y/y.
TransmissionMore persistent inflation → more hawkish central banks → elevated nominal and real yields.
ImpactPressure on duration, Real Estate, Utilities and cyclical segments most sensitive to financial conditions.
Confirmation / RiskCredit and VIX do not yet confirm stress; however, 50DMA breadth and ST WPI represent the first point of weakness.
DriverBonds weak across the entire curve.
TransmissionStocks/Bonds ratio rises even as equity turns negative.
ImpactApparent relative risk appetite may overstate the absolute strength of equity.
Confirmation / RiskA recovery in breadth is needed, not merely relative outperformance against TLT.

13. Focus for the Week Ahead
Base scenario: an orderly correction within a regime that remains constructive but increasingly selective. Sustaining it requires stable credit, contained VIX and a stabilisation of short-term breadth. Deterioration signal: yields holding sustainably above recent thresholds alongside further deterioration in ST WPI and LT breadth, with contagion spreading to credit. Risk-on re-opening signal: a cooling of energy/yields and a recovery in market participation — not merely an index bounce.
What to Monitor in W38: Participation and Credit Resilience
The operational focus for W38 is not whether the S&P 500 can bounce after a negative week; it is whether the market is able to re-broaden participation while absorbing a higher cost of capital. As long as credit holds, the backdrop remains one of selection and rotation. Should credit begin to deteriorate in tandem with breadth and bonds, the nature of the regime will change.
